MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit).

The department has got well established Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) for the management of critically ill patients who require regular monitoring vital parameters from time to time and adjustment of drug dosages. MICU is well equipped with ventilator, cardiac monitors. Digiinfusa and Syringe Pumps and all facilities for Active Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) by qualified Doctors. Physiotherapists and Nursing Staff for efficient care of critically ill patients.

Consultant physician are always available for immediate patient care round the clock. Bed strength of MICU is 34 beds. MICU -1. (Step In) -10 beds with cardiac and Central Monitors for the management of critically ill patients and MICU-II. (Step Out) 24 beds for the management of less critically ill but relatively stable patients.

Types of patients treated in MICU:

Respiratory:

Acute Severe Bronchial Asthma, Acute Exacerbation of COPD, ARDS. Respiratory failure of various etiologies. Pneumonia. Broncho Pneumonia, Tension neumothorax . Pyothorax. required ventilatory support

Cardiovascular :

Unstable angina, acute LVF. Myocarditis

Hepatic :

hepatic coma secondary to fulminant hepatitis. Chronic liver disease with bleeding oesophageal varices.

Gastro intenstinal :

Acute Erosive Gastritis Acute pancreatitis.
Neurological : Coma under investigation. Cerbro Vascular Accident, Meningitis , GB syndrome.

Endocrenial and Metabolic :

Diabetic ketoacidosis. Myxoedemic crisis. Addisonian crisis, SIADH. hyper and Hyponatremia, Hyper or Hypokalemia. Hypoglycemic coma.

Poisonings :

Organo Phosphorus, organo chlorine. Barbiturate, Sedative etc.

Haemotological :

Severe Anaemia, Neutropenic fever. Disseminated Intra Vascular. Coagulation. Bleeding Disorders. AML. Mediastinal lymphoma with SVC Obstruction, etc..

Pregnancy related:

Eclampsia. DIC.

Infections :

Severe Malaria. Septicaemia.
