Functions:

The department is responsible for performing a variety of tasks. The following are some of the common functions:

1. Daily cleaning

This includes sweeping and mopping floors, dusting furniture, cleaning fixtures, walls, ceilings, windows and bathrooms, emptying trash cans etc.

2. Periodic Cleaning

This includes -washing windows, waxing floors, cleaning carpets, dusting high ceilings and changing drapers.

3. Trash and garbage removal

4. Discharge cleaning

This includes cleaning patent room after discharge or transfer of a patient and readying it for another patient

5. Exterminating bugs and pests

6. Preventing spread of infect ion and ensuring conditions for good patient care

7. Arranging for different functions like CME, VIP visit and any functions or celebration in the hospital.

8. Keeping stock and providing all the required items to the various wards like, towels, patient dresses etc.

In addition to the above, the housekeeping department has certain incidental responsibilities, as follows:

1. Saving electricity by turning off lights, fans etc., when not in use.
2. Ensuring an economical use of supplies.
3.Developing goodwill by a courteous, helpful and caring attitude towards the patients and visitors.
4. Promoting safety rules and measures by observing them and reporting dangerous conditions.
5. Maintaining a harmonious working relationship with the employees of the other departments.

Floor Decoration done under our supervision on 15/10/04 appreciated by president of India  A. P. J. Abdul Kalam during his visit to Hospital. 

Location:

Housekeeping serves all areas and departments of the hospital. It is centrally located and close to the vertical transport system to facilitate easy movement of housekeeping materials and equipment.

Facilities and space provided:

The following facilities and space has been provided for the housekeeping department:

1. Office for manager housekeeping.

2. Desks for assistant housekeeping manager and floor supervisors.

3. Storage room for housekeeping equipment and supplies.

4. Room for workers.
