Our Eye is a window to the world. Made up of 5
Important parts.
1. CORNEA & Covering? like
Conjunctiva & sclera
2. CHAMBER WITH FLUID
3. LENS
4. RETINA
5. OPTIC NERVE
CORNEA. It is a transparent part of eye.
Light rays can pass through it as through a glass piece. This layer is
continuous with
conjunctiva & sclera. Just behind this is a fluid filled chamber maintaining
intra ocular
pressure. Fluid m this chamber is filtered through small openings. Blocking
of these
pores leads to increased pressure with in the eye known as Glaucoma.
LENS. Transparent part made up of proteins. & plays a major role in focusing
object
from distance to near. In young and in adults it is transparent As the age
advances it
becomes non transparent (opaque) and prevents the light entering in the eye.
This is
called a Cataract
Retina. Innermost part of the eye. It is nothing but multiple layers
of neurons. This layer
perceives the images & converts these images into electrical impulses, which
propagates
the message to the brain via the optic nerve. The Retina is prone to many
vascular
diseases like diabetes & hypertension.
Optic nerve. It is like an electric cord where nerve impulses from retina
are carried to
the brain. Whenever there is increased pressure in die eye functioning
ability of die nerve
comes down which can lead to blindness.
