Instrumentation

The
haematology laboratory is well equipped with fully
automated haematology analyser of Beckman Coulter -
COULTER - HMX and Sysmex SF 3000.
|

It is a
5 part differential with VCS technology.
|
 |
It is
backed up with automated reticulocyte counting.
|
 |
It
performs 80 tests per hour & delivers 23 blood cell
parameters which include MCV, MCH, MCHC, ROW, MPV
Absolute values for neutrophils, eosinophils.
|
 |
It has
a speical feature of predilute mode for paediatric and
neonatal samples.
|
 |
Nycocard reader for quantitative D-dimer analysis.
|
 |
The
Coagulation division is equipped with theTrinity's
(Biotech) KC 1 Delta an automated coagulation Analyser
for complete coagulation workup.

 |
Oral
anticoagulation monitoring , factor deficiencies, &
investigations for thrombo -embolic phenomenon are done
here. |
Microscope:
Trinocular Leica Microscope with CCTV attachment along
with a digital camera for capture of images of
interesting slides.
Quality Control:
The instrument has an inbuilt XB analysis for 20 batch
means. Also commercially available controls of different
levels are run daily. We participate in the EQAS program
of CMC, Vellore.

laboratory works round the clock over 24 hrs. |

Complete work up for Anaemia, Leukaemia and Coagulation
studies are done. |

More
than 300 bone marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy are
done every year. |

Urine &
Body fluid anaylsis are done too. |
Cytology:
 |
This
department is well equipped with a Cytocentrifuge (Leica) |
 |
The
Cervical PAP smears are reported according to the
Bethesda system. |
 |
All
body fluids are routinely processed for PAP, MQG and if
required for special stains. |
 |
Sometimes cell blocks are prepared. |
 |
More
than 400 FNAC are done per year. About 350, USG and CT
guided FNAC of the lung, mediastinum, deep seated
tumours in the abdomen are performed. |
Histopathology :
 |
It is
equipped with the state of art equipments for tissue
processing. |
 |
Routine
stains and histochemical stains like PAS, Retic , Van
Gieson stain , MTS , PTAH etc are done. |
 |
The
department plans to introduce immunohistochemistry in
future. |
Faculty:
 |
It is
headed by a Chief pathologist and three junior
consultants who are well qualified and experienced in
haematology, histopathology and cytopathology. |
 |
Ten
well trained and qualified technicians are an asset for
this highly equipped laboratory. |
Research projects:
The hospital laboratory actively participate in research
projects of the KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC.
