In observance of World SLE (Lupus) Awareness Month, KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and MRC organized an impactful awareness event on 15th May 2025.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a self-destructive autoimmune disease affecting multiple organs, primarily among reproductive-age females.
Col (Dr) Arun Hegde, Commanding Officer, Military Hospital Belagavi, provided a detailed overview of SLE, especially its implications in pregnancy. He emphasized the importance of screening for conditions like APLA (clotting disorder).
Dr. N.S. Mahantashetti, Principal, J.N.M.C., spoke about recognizing mild symptoms like oral ulcers, while Dr. V.M. Pattanshetti, Dr. Rajesh Powar, Dr. Rekha Patil, and Dr. Bhavana contributed valuable insights during the event.
Dr. Pravin Jain, Consultant Rheumatologist, discussed diagnostic investigations and modern therapies. Dr. Sneha A. (Dermatology PG) covered skin care tips and sun protection. Dr. Raksha (Geriatric Physio PG) stressed the role of physiotherapy in arthritis care.
Dr. Samrudhi (Psychiatry PG) highlighted emotional stress, mood swings, and caregiver burnout—common but often unnoticed aspects of SLE recovery.
The event concluded with an emotional interactive session where patients and caregivers shared real stories of battling SLE—from life-threatening symptoms to inspiring recoveries.
This well-rounded awareness initiative was appreciated for addressing the medical, emotional, and social dimensions of a complex and often misunderstood disease.
