The Neurology department started as one of the core clinical department since the inception of the hospital. The department is staffed with five fulltime Neurologists. Outpatient clinic is conducted six days a week from Monday to Saturday and serves the patients with diverse neurological disorders.
The department caters to all neurological emergencies including cerebrovascular disorders (including acute ischemic stroke, cerebral haemorrhage, cerebral venous thrombosis), epilepsy, meningitis, encephalitis, central nervous demyelination, neuromuscular paralysis due to diverse causes, etc. The Neurology department has a dedicated Neurointensive care unit and a stroke unit with availability of round the clock acute care including Intravenous thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke.
Dedicated specialty clinic for movement disorders and stroke are run by the department. The team provides Botox therapy for control of spasticity and movement disorders.
The department has advanced digital EEG systems for recording the electrical activity of the brain which is an important diagnostic in the evaluation of epilepsies. It has a video EEG unit, and two digital EEG systems to cater to the outpatient and admitted patients. The department has two state-of-the-art ENMG and Evoked Potential systems to perform basic and advanced nerve conductions, advanced needle electromyography, visual evoked potentials, auditory evoked potentials and somatosensory evoked potentials.
