The Department of Urology became an independent super-specialty in 1994 and started MCh Urology training in the year 2001, the first such Department in the North Karnataka.
The Department provides state of the art medical care for a variety of Urological ailments and serves as a referral centre for complicated urological problems for the patients from North Karnataka, Goa and South Maharashtra.
It is also the first Department to start renal transplant program in North Karnataka and is successfully running active live related renal transplant and cadaveric renal transplant as well.
Numerous surgical procedures of all subspecialities like Endourology, Pediatric Urology, Urooncology, Female Urology, Andrology, Laparoscopic procedures are regularly performed in the department.
The Department is also actively involved in research and is pursuing research in urinary biomarkers for prostate cancer in collaboration with Jefferson Thomson University.
