Retromolar trigone, Floor of mouth), Oropharyngeal Cancers (Base of Tongue, posterior pharyngeal wall, Tonsil),
Hypopharyngeal Cancers (Post cricoid, Pyriform fossa, Posterior pharyngeal wall), Laryngeal (Voice Box) Cancers
(Supra glottis, Glottis, Sub glottis), Thyroid Cancers, Salivary Gland Cancers, Nose and Paranasal Sinus Cancers,
Nasopharyngeal Cancers, Cancers of ear & Skin cancers. In India lip & Oral cancers are the most common among males
and is the 4th commonest among females. Majority of the Head & Neck Cancers are caused due to consumption of
tobacco & alcohol.
Head & Neck Surgical Oncology was started at K.L.E.S. Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC, Belagavi in 2006. It was
the first specialized Head & Neck Surgical Oncology services in the entire North Karnataka in 2006 and since then
the unit has been serving the Head & Neck cancer patients of north Karnataka, adjoining districts of Maharashtra
and Goa. The unit is handled by the well experienced & highly trained Head & Neck senior consultant. Our centre is
comprehensive Cancer Care Unit, with the availability of all the diagnostics and therapeutics including
Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy & Radio – Iodine Ablation by the respective subject experts. Along with this, our
centre has very good support of all the Basic as well as Super-specialty departments, Blood bank, Physiotherapy,
Intensive care unit, Intensivists, Rehabilitation specialists etc, which are all required for taking care of
patients with complex Head & Neck Tumour.
